Event review: Alex M.O.R.P.H. at Toika Lounge

August 6, 2013

A night of epic trance music at Toika Lounge with Producer and DJ Alex M.O.R.P.H., preceded by a meet-and-greet with the DJ on Saturday, July 27.

The winners of a contest organized by Love This City TV and Ozmozis Productions through social media had the opportunity to meet the German DJ at Jack Astor’s, where they enjoyed a meal with him and shared laughs and took photos. The restaurant kindly provided our table with a few complimentary appetizers, including bruschetta bread and nachos.

A few blocks away, at Toika, the night was already slowly brewing, with Shelley Johannson spinning tech-house beats as the crowd drizzled in, warming up the dance floor and slowly getting the dancers ready for the headlining DJ. Shelley is one of Ozmozis’ resident DJs, and her fanbase is growing quite rapidly.

With the club full, and everyone pumped up, Alex M.O.R.P.H. took over the decks around thirty minutes past midnight, taking the dance floor under his control and manipulating the crowd’s energy through his transitions. Starting his set with a slow tempo, he kept fluctuating it throughout the night—which might have frustrated some of the dancers, who had shown up expecting a night of full-on energetic, uplifting trance. But the DJ had a plan in mind, and to test the waters, he dropped his hit single “An Angel’s Love,” only to receive an outstanding response from the crowd, with even the people lounging around now rushing back into the dance floor, raising their arms and joining the foray of harmonious singing as the melody reverberated around the club and settled into the listeners’ hearts, filling them with emotions of bliss and ecstasy.

Slowly, the DJ tuned down his set once again, rebuilding it track after track throughout the night. But by around 2:30 am, with the energy refueled at full capacity, M.O.R.P.H. at once pushed the crowd over the edge, dropping heavy tune after heavy tune, trance anthems that everyone was familiar with. As they danced and sang, all of their energy was bursting out of them, but M.O.R.P.H. reflected it right back at them, singing and jumping and pumping his arms, getting the crowd more and more hyped up… ’til he squeezed all the energy out of the dance floor, and everyone all but collapsed from exhaustion after a tension-filled roller-coaster of a musical journey.

One more magical night for the records, thanks to Ozmozis Productions and Alex M.O.R.P.H. The next Ozmozis party will be Swedish DJ Bjorn Akesson’s debut in Toronto on August 9th, 2013. Don’t miss it!
